Speech Language Pathologist—Exceptional Student Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology.
  2. Valid Speech Language Pathologist Certificate issued by Arizona Department of Education.
  3. Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology.
  4. Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  5. Experience as a practicing Speech Language Pathologist.
  6. Bilingual English/Navajo preferred.

Director of Exceptional Student Services

 

JOB GOAL

 

To provide students direct and consultative services to support individual speech and/or language impairments in order to derive full benefit from the District's educational programs. The speech language pathologist will develop, coordinate and implement appropriate services for identified students in the District. Provide services to promote student access to the general education curriculum and progress through their program.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supports early intervening services through the Child Find process, such as a Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI), and universal design for learning, through direct and consultative services.
  1. Assists Multidisciplinary Evaluation Teams (MET) in observing and describing concerns regarding impairments.
  1. Conducts thorough screening, assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, and language impairments; interprets results to MET, and writes appropriate recommendation reports.
  1. Validates outside diagnostic evaluations and program recommendations.
  1. Develops, monitors and reports on school-based Speech Language services for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) that support specially designed instruction.
  1. Provides direct service and individualized services to meet the needs of the students and corrects existing speech and/or language concerns.
  2. Consults with school staff, parents and agencies regarding student needs, progress, and instructional accommodations and/or modifications for the daily activities of students.
  1. Participates in District MET to prevent failure or improve performance and instructional practices, such as assistive technology, high school transition, positive behavior support, early intervention, etc.
  1. Trains school staff in activities, use of assistive technology and/or appropriate accommodations to be implemented throughout the school day and across environments.
  1. Directs activities of teachers and technical assistants in refining Speech Language skills of students with supported training as needed.
  1. Communicates effectively, both orally and in written form.
  1. Maintains documentation, including relevant data needed to recommend and monitor student’s response to services, including intervention plans, session notes and assessment summaries.
  1. Keeps up-to-date in knowledge of both general and special education, including education standards, curriculum, state and local assessments, parental rights and responsibilities, and special education requirements and procedures.
  1. Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech services.
  1. Participates in professional growth activities.
  1. Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  1. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Ten (10) months a year.  The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.
