POSITION TITLE

 

Bus Monitor

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. minimum.
  2. Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  3. Must be dependable and reliable.
  4. Must have First Aid and CPR certifications for adult, children, and infant.
  5. Must be dedicated and understanding of children and their safety.
  6. Ability to follow the school’s health, safety, and emergency procedures.
  7. Must have experience working with children with significant challenges.
  8. Must be willing to learn the Arizona Minimum Standards for Student Transportation.
  9. Must pass the three-day Bus Monitor Training Course.
  10. Must be physically fit to lift, transfer, and physically assist students pre-school through age 22.

JOB GOAL

 

To support children with significant challenges who are transported to and from school.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implements the behavior modification plans of students as specified in student Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
  2. Supervises and maintains reasonable order of students throughout the entire bus route.
  3. Manages individualized seating and positioning recommendations.
  4. Operates the wheelchair lift system and wheelchair securements.
  5. Supervises usage of equipment used for transporting students.
  6. Ensures all students are safely secured in car seats, wheelchairs, and bus seats.
  7. Assists students while entering and exiting the bus at all times.
  8. Assists with emergency management.
  9. Assists with evacuation procedures.
  10. Implements special IEP services.
  11. Maintains good communication with the bus driver at all times.
  12. Communicates effectively with students and staff.
  13. Communicates and establishes positive relationships with parents and teachers.
  14. Completes daily journals, written reports, and make referrals as necessary.
  15. Ensures with bus driver that no child is left on the bus.
  16. Assists and observes from inside the bus to insure that the driver is safely backing up.
  17. Follows and obeys State regulations and procedures for special needs transportation.
  18. Performs other duties assigned by Exceptional Student Services director and Transportation supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Part-time and on timesheet basis, Grade 2, Non-exempt status position. The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.
