POSITION TITLE

 

Social Worker—District-wide

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Social Work degree (BSW, MSW or other related degrees).
  2. Experience working with students, families, and the community.
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate support to children and families in an educational setting.
  4. Experience in advocacy, intervention, and connecting students to resources is highly valued.
  5. Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card required.

JOB GOAL

 

To provide support and resources to ensure students receive the fullest benefit from the school's academic program by addressing social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborates with school staff to provide a system of support for students at risk of failing or experiencing difficulties.
  1. Assists the students in developing problem solving and coping skills related to home and school challenges.
  1. Tracks and monitors students at-risk of failing due to low performance, attendance, or other concerns, and develops individual support plans to promote academic success as well as social and emotional well-being.
  1. Acts as liaison between community organizations (Indian Health Services, Behavioral Health, Juvenile Detention, Courts, etc.) and the district to connect students and families to resources.
  1. Supports students with social and emotional concerns, substance abuse questions or problems, mental health, poverty, unemployment, rehabilitation, social adjustment and childcare and/or medical care by connecting them with appropriate services.
  1. Provides information to educate students about medical and social results of substance abuse and prevention programs.
  1. Works with the school counseling office to provide student and family support through group sessions, workshops, and resource referrals.
  1. Works with the police department and juvenile officers.
  1. Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) process, as necessary.
  1. Maintains accurate case files and reports to track student issues and progress and ensures confidentiality.
  1. Assists in student intervention efforts by developing support strategies in collaboration with school teams and external agencies.
  1. Assists the school in following school board regulations for excessive absences and truancy.
  1. Attends student team meetings and court intervention.
  1. Conducts home visits as a method to access the family and conducts interviews in response to school referrals.
  1. Provides crisis intervention services.
  1. Interviews students and families, or in groups, assessing their situations, capabilities, and problems, to determine what services are required to meet their needs and develops a plan of action.
  1. Provides information and/or reports to supervisors and co-workers for referrals, monitoring, and progress.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Ninety (90) days probationary contract period of employment when initially hired. Nine and one-half (9.5) months a year thereafter based on the Initial Placement Certified Salary Schedule. This position is exempt. The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.

 

EVALUATION

 

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on the Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
