POSITION TITLE
Substitute Teacher Assistant—Early Childhood Education
QUALIFICATIONS
- An associate degree: or 60 semester hours of coursework documented on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education; or meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through the passage of a formal State or local academic assessment accepted by the Arizona Department of Education.
- Possesses current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Possesses a valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Dependable and reliable attendance.
- Ability to be flexible with an assigned task.
- Ability to take initiative as appropriate.
- Ability to deal with confidential information in a professional manner.
- Ability to follow the school's health, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Experience working with students with disabilities and preferably have experience with implementing an Individual Education Plan.
- Experience working with the preschool age 3 to 5 preferred.
- Ability to communicate with colleagues, follow instructions and use critical thinking skills that will enable the team to work effectively.
- Ability to gather and maintain data regarding the performance and behavior of individual students and confer with team about schedules, goals, progress, and performance.
- Physically fit to lift, transfer, and physically assist students ages 3-5.

Teacher and Building Principal
JOB GOAL
Under the supervision of an Exceptional Student Services (ESS) teacher, the primary purpose is to support the ESS teacher and curriculum and work directly with children in the classroom in individual or group activities as well as related work as required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides and conducts instructional support under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher who prepares the lessons and plans the instruction support activities.
- Evaluates the progress of the students with whom the teacher assistant is working.
- Provides individualized student tutoring with directions from the teacher or related services professionals.
- Assists with classroom management, such as organizing instructional materials and caring for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Demonstrates specific areas of competency in areas such as classroom management, implementation of student Individualized Education Plan, CPR and First Aid, learning styles, developmental stages of learning, social-emotional and instructional support for preschool children.
- Assists with parental involvement activities.
- Acts as a translator and assumes responsibility for providing bilingual instruction if a child needs or prefers instruction as noted through observations.
- Checks and records student attendance.
- Assists with lunch and snack time, clean up, washing, toileting and other daily care routines.
- Keeps bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up to date.
- Assists with the supervision of students during lunch time, recess, emergency drills, assemblies, and local field trips. (Overtime pay or comp time and required approval in advance by the building principal prior to trip).
- Attends and participates in professional growth workshops as assigned by the preschool teacher and/or Early Childhood Education coordinator.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Timesheet basis at Grade 3 according to the Initial Placement Support Staff Salary Schedule. Federally funded and non-exempt position. Salary to be established by the Governing Board.
EVALUATION
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
