POSITION TITLE

 

PK-12 Technical Assistant

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. An Associate degree: or 60 semester hours of coursework documented on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education; or meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through the passage of a formal State or local academic assessment accepted by the Arizona Department of Education.
  2. Possesses current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  3. Possesses a valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
  4. Dependable and reliable attendance.
  5. Ability to be flexible with an assigned task.
  6. Ability to take initiative as appropriate.
  7. Ability to deal with confidential information in a professional manner.
  8. Ability to follow the school's health, safety, and emergency procedures.
  9. Experience working with students with disabilities and preferably have experience with implementing an Individual Education Plan.
  10. Ability to communicate with colleagues, follow instructions and use critical thinking skills that will enable the team to work effectively.
  11. Ability to gather and maintain data regarding the performance and behavior of individual students and confer with team about schedules, goals, progress, and performance.
  12. Physically fit to lift, transfer, and physically assist students pre-school through age 22.

JOB GOAL

 

To assist in the operation and function of the educational program of assigned Preschool, Prekindergarten through 12th grade student(s) or small groups of varying levels of ability as directed by and under the supervision of the Special Education teacher.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists and collaborates with teachers, support personnel, and parents in the implementation and follow-through of the student's Individual Education Plan, which may include behavior management in the student's least restrictive environment.
  1. Assists and collaborates in the implementation and follow-through of the Student's Individual Education Plan within the general program including the cafeteria, hallway, playground, bus, as well as in the general education classrooms.
  1. Provides the instructional delivery of review and practice of previously learned material in small groups or individually after consultation with the supervising teacher.
  1. Collects observational data of assigned student(s) in various school settings and reports to supervising teacher.
  1. Assists students(s) physically with personal care needs i.e., grooming, toileting, feeding and other daily living skills as needed.
  1. Provides opportunities for the student to be independent.
  1. Supervises students by circulating among students, checking work, responding to individual students' questions, and monitoring the rest of the students.
  1. Assists with the preparation and implementation of classroom adaptations and modifications after consultation with the supervising teacher.
  1. Assists in the physical care and movement of the child by positioning and monitoring the student with or without the use of adapted equipment.
  1. Increases knowledge and skills by training with Special Education staff that work with specific students regarding application of strategies and adapting material and equipment used in the inclusive classroom setting.
  1. Communicates effectively with students and establishes positive relationships with parents and teachers.
  1. Refers concerns expressed by parents, individuals, or others to the supervising teacher.
  1. Discusses concerns with the teacher involved.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Ninety (90) days probationary period of employment when initially hired. Nine and one-half (9.5) months a year thereafter at Grade 3 on the Initial Placement Support Staff Salary Schedule, at six (6) hours per day with the flexibility to increase based on student needs. This position is non-exempt and federally funded. The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on the Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
