POSITION TITLE

 

Teacher—Exceptional Student Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid Arizona State Teaching Certificate.
  2. Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
  3. Must hold Arizona Special Education credentials.
  4. Evidence of successful teaching experience.
  5. Structured English Immersion (SEI) or English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement preferred.

JOB GOAL

 

Provides resource, moral, technical and evaluative support for the inclusive classroom with the desired outcome that all K-12 students be successful in their educational and social endeavors. To assure that the classroom teacher feels genuinely supported in his/her efforts to promote student success and positive interdependence in the classroom.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Designs curricular and instructional methods that assist the classroom teacher to effectively include the student in all class activities.
  1. Designs curricular and instructional methods that promote positive interdependence among the students in class.
  1. Listens to and acts on the support needs identified by students, parents, and school staff.
  1. Assists in modifying instruction and/or adapting curriculum to meet the needs of all students, especially for students with at risk or with special needs.    
  1. Works collaboratively with school staff to promote positive and open communication and support. 
  1. Communicates effectively with colleagues and parents regarding students’ progress and/or school expectations.
  1. Provides in-services and training to school staff regarding Special Education such as the referral process, LRE, SIT/SAT role, learning strategies, modification/adaptation of curriculum, etc.
  1. Assists in the development and implementation of behavior management plans.
  1. Serves as a member of the School Intervention/School Appraisal Team.
  1. Assists in the identification and evaluation process of Special Education students according to state and federal guidelines. 
  1. Assists in the development of Individualized Educational Plans and Individualized Transitional Plans. 

   12. Ensures the confidentiality of students.

  1. Maintains and ensures that student records are kept in compliance according to state and federal guidelines.
  1. Organizes and/or manages any additional supports and resources deemed necessary. 
  1. Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor. 
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Nine and one-half (9.5) months a year. The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.
